Austin Metal Authority and Mobile Loaves & Fishes are excited to welcome you to the second annual Austin Forging Competition (AFC 2017)! Mark your calendars for April 22 — you won't want to miss it!
AFC 2017 will be an unforgettable day of sparks, hammers, fires, and friendly competition featuring some of the most skilled and passionate artist blacksmiths from across North America. With multiple teams forging simultaneously throughout the day, AFC 2017 will be a lively demonstration of creative contemporary metalwork!
Our panel of judges will determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place awards… but as a member of the audience, you will be invited to cast your ballot for the much-coveted People's Choice Award!
You'll also enjoy tours of the Community First! Village, including our goat pasture, tiny houses, and garden. We'll have live music, vegetarian and meat burgers prepared and served by our Village neighbors at the Community Grille, and a market for you to purchase the handmade products created by our talented formerly homeless neighbors. Our resident blacksmiths, woodworkers, glass blowers, painters, and leather workers earn 100% of the profit from their product sales, empowering them to stay in affordable housing and supportive community here at the Village.
Doors open at 9am. Forging will start promptly at 10am, so be sure to arrive on time to see all the action! You will find parking at the Village (follow the signs) and overflow at the MasTec lot at the corner of Decker Lane & Hog Eye Road. Shuttles will be provided!
Families, children, and dogs on leashes are welcome!
