Dark Matter Horns
Dark Matter Horns (tenor sax, flute, trumpet and live loops) is the new duo by members of WD-41 consisting of Willie Oteri (tenor sax, flute and live loops) and Dave Laczko (trumpet live loops and effects.). Following a well received 2009 debut release, titled WD-41, the duo teamed with the talents of beat jockey and multi-instrumentalist Dino J.A. Deane (of John Zorn, Jon Hassell, Bill Frisell) and drummer Scott Amendola (of Nels Cline, Charlie Hunter) for an extension of their exploratory sonic trip. Originally Oteri had the role of guitar and live loops and has recently returned to sax and flute. Dark Matter Horns gives WD-41 a new canvas.
Willie Oteri’s musical versatility has propelled him to collaborations and performances in Jazz and Rock with names like J. A. Deane ( John Zorn, Bill Frisell), Scott Amendola ( Nels Cline, Charlie Hunter), Tony Levin ( Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, John Lennon), Pat Mastelotto ( King Crimson, XTC), Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa), Jerry Marotta ( Peter Gabriel), Stu Hamm (Joe Satriani, SteveVai) Ronan Chris Murphy (producer/mixer) and many others.
Dave Laczko has been on the Austin Texas jazz scene for many years performing with Barron’s of Rhythm and pianist Mel Winters among others. Laczko was also a jazz radio DJ for KAZI in Austin for 14 years and a prominent member of Tower Records in Austin which has sadly closed. Laczko’s experimental trumpet playing is a driving force and shows his ability to fit in to any improvised situation.
