Heard Presents: HÄANA Salt Release Party w/ Somatoast and Diamond Cuts at the Chop Shop
LA-based producer/violinist/vocalist HÄANA's original productions are like a filmscore: Nordic and Icelandic-tinged music merged with digital and analog. She counts Massive Attack, Björk, and Trentemøller as influences in crafting her sounds, featuring electronica influences, rhythmic syncopation, extensive use of strings, vamping and synthetic sonority. The resulting sonic palate takes listeners on a journey whose destination is a crossroads between classical and contemporary, organic & man-made, familiar and mysterious. HÄANA has been featured in Vogue, and special appearances include performing for Michael Jordan’s wedding, opening for The Rolling Stones with Kanye West, and for Obama’s Inaugural Ball.
«If you don’t know who HÄANA is, you need to discover her. She was one of the most talented individuals I came across all weekend [at Lightning in a Bottle Festival]. Dressed in a black and gold dress, with a gold cage headpiece, HÄANA sings live, mixes live, and plays the violin live. Her nordic inspired tunes, combined with her ethereal voice and violin create a uniquely magical sound. The beauty of her music is something that should not be overlooked and is something that everyone needs to experience at least once.» — Freshclef
Somatoast aka Mark Rubin has an insatiable hunger for the unheard. Through downtempo rhythms, spacious melodies, and alien textures, he invokes a mysterious ritual in a modern, strange context. Mark came to Austin to study film production and digital media. He was immediately sucked into psychedelic music and arts culture. There, Mark began creating his own dub, electronica, and glitch-hop concoctions as he became inspired by the eclectic surroundings that Austin has to offer. Mark now has official releases on Gravitas Recordings, Shanti Planti, and Merkaba Music.
