Alt Girl Cinema* and the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) presents Ovarian Psycos, a documentary film. A new generation of women of color in East Los Angeles are redefining identity and building community through a raucous, irreverently named bicycle crew: The Ovarian Psycos Cycle Brigade. Riding at night through streets deemed dangerous, las Ovas use their bicycles to confront the violence in their lives. The film rides along with the Ova’s, exploring the impact of the group’s activism, born of feminist ideals, Indigenous understanding and an urban/hood mentality, on neighborhood women and communities as they confront injustice, racism, and violence, and take back their streets one ride at a time.
Members of the Ovarian Psyco-Cycles Bicycle Brigade will join us for a post film Q & A session.
Austin's own bike collective for female-identifying and gender nonconforming folks, the Bikin' Betties will organize a ride to the Drafthouse for the screening. Route TBA.
