South Austin Museum of Popular Culture
1516 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, Texas 78704
It's finally happening, you guys! SouthPop's 50 Over 50: An exhibit featuring 50 of Austin’s premier working musicians and artists over the age of 50. Through stories and interviews we’ll be capturing their portraits and the unique tales that are crucial to preserving this history that made Austin music culture what it is today.
With the help of Austin Public, we are capturing the history from when Austin was really cool that turned this sleepy Texas town into the Live Music Capital of the World. Audio of Austin's artists and musicians will be made available through our soundcloud and webpage for exhibition, archival, and educational purposes, and we will be having an exhibition and live music event to celebrate this incredible project. We're bringing this exhibit into the 21st Century, so download a barcode scanner and bring a pair of headphones to listen to the interviews in the gallery. If you need help, staff will be on hand.
We will hold an event celebrating the project, on Sunday July 23 at 7pm featuring live music from Harvey Thomas Young. Beer, wine, and light refreshments will be available with a $5 donation. Members for free. The exhibit will run through September 30 every Thursday — Sunday, 1-6pm. Please be aware there is NO PARKING at the Center, so please park on Collier Street.
Please stay tuned for more updates as they become available. We will be posting photos and maybe snippets of video during our interview process, and we hope you'll join us July 23 to see how it all comes together.
