Join the LBJ Presidential Library for their Summer Storytime series!

Storytime begins at 10 a.m. and will take place in the LBJ Library's Atrium on the 10th floor.

Our Tuesday, July 25 featured guests are Author Kathi Appelt and Illustrator Joy Fisher Hein of «Miss Lady Bird's Wildflowers: How a First Lady Changed America.»

Storytime will be followed by a family-friendly activity and book signing.

Age group: Ideal age and/or grade level is seven years old or second grade.

Kathi Appelt is a New York Times best-selling author of more than 40 books for children and young adults. Her picture book, «Miss Lady Bird's Wildflowers: How a First Lady Changed America,» illustrated by Joy Fisher Hein, won the Growing Green Kids award from the Junior Master Gardeners.

Her most recent picture book, «Counting Crows,» illustrated by Rob Dunlavey, was a finalist for the Writers League of Texas Award. Her newest novel, «Maybe a Fox,» co-written with Alison McGhee, won the Jean Flynn Award given by the Texas Institute of Letters and has also been named to the Texas Bluebonnet Master List.

Joy Fisher Hein is the artist and illustrator of Kathi Appelt's award-winning book, «Miss Lady Bird's Wildflowers: How a First Lady Changed America.»

She celebrates her love of Texas with her illustrations in «Sam Houston: Standing Firm»; «David Crockett: Creating a Legend» by Mary Dodson Wade; and, «Bloomin' Tales, Legends of Seven Favorite Texas Wildflowers» by Cherie Foster Colburn.

The Texas State Library and Archives selected her to create the art for the 2009 Texas Reading Club, including a wildflower poster celebrating the State Library's 100th anniversary. And, her 2014 painting of a native Texas Red Drummond Phlox won the national wildflower art competition for The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
