AMADO PEÑA: A DECADE IN PORTRAIT
Drawings, Paintings, and Graphics from 1970 to 1979
“For the first time, it hit me [and] I said, ‘There’s got to be other ways of talking about ourselves without having to spill blood; without having to show an image of a pistol, a bleeding lettuce or a clenched fist. There are other ways.’ And I quit. I turned to other things that were just as important: my family… portraits of things that we did, portraits of things around my house that were just as relevant.”
