UNTELLABLE TALES is a one-day creative writing workshop for aspiring and accomplished authors with a social justice bent. It asks you to isolate a single societal issue to which you wish to bring attention and/or comment upon, and to explore it in a respectful, radical, authentic way. Whether you want to write a book, a documentary poem, a film script, a song, a performance piece, or something entirely new and genre-independent, UNTELLABLE TALES is for people who feel strongly about a cause and who, through the incisive weapon of art, are ready to do something about it.
UNTELLABLE TALES takes its name from Cider Spoon's annual series of collected stories, each volume of which highlights an issue that we as a society aren't talking about enough. The price of the workshop includes one copy of either POSTMARKS ON OUR FOREHEADS: HOSPICE CARE PATIENTS, MEMORY CARE PATIENTS, & THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEM (2016), or WHISPERS: HEALING & TRIUMPH AFTER SEXUAL ASSAULT (2017).
Refreshments and handouts will also be provided.
Join us for a three-hour exploration of social justice, contemporary criticism, creative expression, performance art through the ages, self-publishing, in-class writing exercises, and more.
We will take a break halfway through class. Please bring a notebook and pen or laptop/tablet + charger.
