What causes homelessness? What gives hope to men and women living on the streets? If these questions stir your spirit, consider joining the staff, residents, and friends of the Community First! Village for a two-night Hope & Justice Retreat. This package begins with an overnight, guided “street retreat” in downtown Austin. A staff-led talk will invite participants to unpack the roots of homelessness, reaching past stereotypes to see the forces shaping the entire culture that are powerfully felt by our brothers and sisters on the street. Such an approach helps us see how we might participate with God’s loving work through our own gifts and efforts.
In the morning, we’ll guide our guests on a city bus out to the Community First! Village to enjoy a breakfast put on by our Community First team. Following breakfast, retreat participants will get to join in on a Saturday morning work event in one of our Community First programs, followed by a catered lunch. As participants engage with members of our community, eat together, and celebrate God’s goodness at the Village, they will be encouraged through a staff-led discussion how the homemaking practices of the Village can inform their own work for justice in a world marked by homelessness. The Saturday-night accommodations will include one of the Community Inn’s camp-style tipis. The retreat concludes with breakfast on Sunday morning.
Package Cost: $135 per person per weekend, including:
36 hour guided retreat
One night at our downtown (with optional downtown “safe house”) and one night in Community Inn tipis
Friday supper from MLF food trucks, Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, and Sunday breakfast at the Village
