It's exactly what it sounds like — we drink beer, sing hymns… AND raise money for charity. Whether you sing the hymnal every week or just want to relive the nostalgia of your youth, all are welcome! There will be no preaching or proselytizing, just a spirited sing-along with your friends and neighbors.
This month will be a Mardi Gras theme at Dozen Street bar at 12th & Chicon — which also happens to be right next door to The Original New Orleans Po-Boy and Gumbo Shop. So grab some cajun food for dinner and then come on over for a raucous and rowdy rendition of all your favorite hymns!
As always, we will be raising money for good causes here in Austin. Half of the total proceeds will go to Urban Roots Farm (http://urbanrootsatx.org/), which uses food and farming to empower youth and cultivate community. The other half will support organizing efforts for the New Story Festival (newstoryfestival.com), an innovative gathering for creativity, spirituality, and social healing, coming to Austin next November! The (optional) cover is $10 (cash) at the door or you can pay by card ahead of time on our Eventbrite page. But we don't ever turn anyone away, so come and sing even if you can't afford to give.
This isn't about the beer, of course, it's about the experience, so if alcohol isn't for you, feel free to order water or soda instead. And please arrange a safe ride home for yourself if you will be drinking.
Also, be sure to Like the Austin Beer & Hymns page to stay in the loop on all of our upcoming events!
