It is with great pleasure and much excitement to invite the Austin Community to the Nowruz Festival!
For over a decade, every year, the Austin community has gathered at Central Market to celebrate the Spring Equinox, which is also celebrated across the world as Persian New Year or other variations of it (Nowruz/Norooz/Nevruz/Navruz). This event is celebrated all the way from Western China and Southwest Asia to the parts of the Balkans and the Caucasus. Whether you are from any of these regions and have traditionally celebrated Nowruz, or you are new to this amazing, historical event, please join us!
We have a great line up for this year: Austin’s award-winning world music band Atash, The Classical Pop Band Ava, Melody DanceFit, Ravaab Dance Company, Behandish Children choir and Persian dance performances.
Central Market café will have a special menu of delicious food based on the traditions of Nowruz.
There will be fun activities, such as egg painting, henna tattoos and dance lessons!
We will also have a Nowruz “Haft-Seen” table. The Haft-Seen table is a altar-like spread that includes various items symbolizing health, wealth, prosperity, peace, purity, and other positive human virtues. These items, such as a plate of sprouting wheat, candles, a mirror, colored eggs, etc. are ancient symbols of Nowruz and can also be seen shared with some other religions and ceremonies.
We recommend arriving early as parking and tables can get full fast. Past Nowruz festivals have drawn an audience of hundreds of people. The event is rain or shine. A covered patio will be utilized in case of rain. The event is completely free and open to the public and it's family friendly.
