The Blanton Museum of Art
200 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, Texas 78712
To celebrate free admission to The Blanton on Thursday May 17th, Austin Camerata presents a world premiere inspired by art in the museum, quartets by two trailblazing women composers, and a conductor-less chamber orchestra in the atrium.
"Three Interventions," by composer Michael Alec Rose, are musical depictions of three powerful works of art. Each piece tells the story of "the power of a single soul to transform the history of an entire people." Among the featured artworks are climactic biblical scenes, such as the Sacrifice of Isaac, and a ten foot portrait of Madam CJ Walker, made entirely out of hair combs. The performance includes musical processionals as the performers lead the audience from one artwork… to the next.
